Mortimer Brewster is an author famous for his open extreme dislike of the idea of marriage. According to him, marriage is an “old-fashioned superstition”. Despite his beliefs, Mortimer falls in love with the beautiful Elaine Harper and the happy couple gets married on Halloween. Right after their marriage, Mortimer decided to take a trip back home to meet his two favorite aunts, Martha and Abby, who have raised him. When he arrives back, Mortimer discovers a few inconvenient truths.
Martha and Abby Brewster are two lonely sisters who live with their insane brother, Teddy, who believes he is Theodore Roosevelt. The Brewster sisters have developed a new plan to help people. They call it ‘doing charity’. Mortimer is shocked to find out that his aunts poison and kill old bachelors as an act of ‘charity’ and then bury the bodies in their basement with Teddy’s help. Not only that, while Mortimer is visiting his old home, his brother Jonathan also drops in with an unexpected surprise. Jonathan is a psychotic murderer trying to escape the police. His unusual and disgusting routine is that he uses his victim’s faces to change his own! Mortimer is dumbfounded and speechless at the discoveries that he makes and tries his best to stay on top of the situation while trying to keep things smooth with his new wife. As he puts it, “Insanity runs in my family, practically gallops!”. Depressed about the genes he has inherited, Mortimer decides to tell his wife the truth, but soon enough, his aunts reveal a family secret that puts his mind to ease and saves his marriage!
