Black Swan
The movie, ‘Black Swan’ tells the story of Nina Sayers (played by Natalie Portman) who is a professional ballerina in a New York City ballet company. Her mother, Erica (played by Barbara Hershey) wants to dominate her life at every turn. Thomas Leroy (played by Vincent Cassel) is Nina’s dance director and he surprises Nina by replacing prime ballerina Beth McIntyre (played by Winona Ryder) and giving her the spot. Nina works very hard to impress Thomas and at the same time feels threatened by Lily (played by Mila Kunis). When Thomas is disappointed by Nina as she feels uncomfortable playing both the White Swan and the Black Swan, Nina starts seeing things ad even imagines Thomas and Lily having an affair. Nina’s illusions start increasing to the extent that Nina starts to question the reality and has trouble differentiating between the hallucinations and the real world. The film ’Black Swan’ is a must watch and have some great performances. Andre Heinz, Mark Heyman and John McLaughlin do a wonderful job with the screenplay which is successful in engrossing the minds of the audience. Natalie Portman’s performance is especially breathtaking and portrays the role of obsessed Nina brilliantly. She dances with grace and elegance and has bagged an Oscar for this performance. Mila KUnis, Vincent Cassel and Barbara Hershey all do a decent enough job too. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, ‘Black Swan’ is a superb film that will be well received by you if you are one those with a craving for thought-provoking movies. Clint Mansell’s music, Benjamin Millepied’s choreography, Matthew Libatique’s camerawork and Andrew Weisblum’s editing all the make the movie technically superior and brilliant.
