Alicia’s father entrusts Benigno to look after his little girl and Benigno spends days by Alicia’s bedside, often reading to her and telling her about his own dead mother’s tales. Soon he meets Marco (played by Dario Grandinetti) who is a journalist from Argentina and the two guys strike up an almost instant friendship. Marco has somewhat similarity with Benigno as his better half (played by Rosario Flores) is also in a coma, as she was stomped on by a bull during her work as a female matador. The film starts off very slowly and may even provoke you to get up or switch the channel, depending the mode of visual medium. But, if you have been patient this far, you are kind of rewarded with amazing cinematic experience as the film starts to unfold and makes for an engaging story line. ‘Habla con Ella’ does have some moments that are genuinely funny and though it can be regarded as a comedy film, one cannot help but admit that it is a dark one at it. Pedro Almodovar creates another bit of striking film that is aesthetically brilliant from the cinematic point of view.
