SUCKER PUNCH

by admin on June 21, 2011

Directed by Zack Snyder, Sucker Punch is visually stunning, epic action fantasy in which anime seems to come alive.

Sucker Punch tells the story of a young girl- Baby Doll, played by Emily Browning, who is made captive by her scheming step-father in an institution for the mentally disturbed. In an attempt to escape the darker world of reality, her vivid imagination takes her to a dream world which is filled with fantasies and incredible adventures. While she is due to be lobotomized (a cruel procedure which was used to cut connections between nerves in a bid to cure patients in the 1950s), she goes into another world where she gets trapped in a whorehouse. Desperately searching for freedom, Baby Doll teams up with four other young girls- Rocket, Blondie, Amber and Sweet Pea and together they start an unbelievable journey to salvage themselves from their captors, Blue , Madam Gorski and the High Roller. Led by Baby Doll, the team engages in a battle with their enemies which involves a lot of wicked and scary creatures ranging from samurais to serpents to retrieve five different items that will allow them to break free from their captors forever.
Though most of the film looks a little dreary and dark, overall, Sucker Punch is a good film but it will be truly enjoyable only for the youngsters, because the kiddos will be too scared and the elders will be too bored! It is evidently a much better option to download Sucker Punch for free and then see it.
The story line is fabulous and Zack Snyder has done a tremendous job in dishing out this platter of action, adventure and fantasy! Coming from the makers of 300, there is no digression, as far as cinematography is concerned, from what we witnessed in 300: there’s a dark, melancholic tint to the screen which sets the mood while the camera captures amazing angles: overhead shots, slow motion sequences, zooming shots on the character’s faces etc. During the film I was thinking that each single frame of the film was so beautiful that it could be used as wallpaper.
The high points of the film are 4 action sequences which transport the girls into fantasy-land, where they have to complete missions. These look more like video games rather a movie: one of them is set in World War II which anybody who has played Call of Duty will relate to. The hand grenades, bunkers, airplanes are truly authentic. Likewise, there’s a rob-a-moving-train sequence, slay-a-dragon and the first one where Baby Doll fights three monsters.
So, don’t wait it out! It is a must see for you if you are an avid gamer or an anime lover to the core. If you do not fall under these two categories, you can give this one a miss and see it at home at your convenience. All you need to do is download the movie for free and you are good to go!
