The Godfather II
The sequel to one of the most amazing movies every created does not disappoint us. The Godfather II follows Michael Carleone’s story as well as his Fathers. The film takes place in two different time frames, one following Don Vito Carleone in the 1900s and the other following his son, Michael, almost fifty years later.
The story follows both father and son through the trials and hardships that each had to face while taking care of their families in ever changing times amongst ever changing circumstance. Both father and son do whatever it takes to establish their business and give numerous sacrifices to reach the top. It is interesting to follow two parallel stories that strike up the uncanny resemblance between a father and son who had ultimately agreed to disagree. Michael and his father did what was necessary to protect the family business, both father and son had a passion for power and both earned the respect that came with it. Vito gave the family business its roots, he set it up during a time when even the wealthiest of people could not maintain themselves. Michael picked up after his father and helped the Corleone family rise from the ashes. Both men were marked by their devotion and both carried the scars that it left.
Following the standard set by the first part, the movie was nominated for eleven Oscars out of which it won six. Along with that it was also nominated for six Golden Globe Awards. The movie might be longer than the first part, but it certainly is up to the mark. Hats off to Francis Coppola once again.
